FRIDAY NIGHT
“Yet again I’m sitting at home, alone, on a Friday night...Why won’t he just ask me out!” Lindsay thought to herself for the millionth time since she started having these feelings for a certain detective.
They had both felt these feelings and couldn’t admit to one another although everyone else could see it. They even had a plan to get them together for Saturday night, saying it was just a night to unwind for the team. Stella’s idea of course, and she let nobody else forget that. The team were to get together at Cozy’s, as Mac was playing a special charity gig, this way nobody could refuse. Stella had everything planned; including what songs would get played after Mac’s set. She wanted Danny and Lindsay to realise their feelings before it was too late. Stella sat in her room, looking down at the outfit she had picked for their night out. She smiled, hung it up and went to bed, she was going to need all the sleep she could get.
SATURDAY AFTERNOON
“Yo, Flack you up for tonight?” Danny asked, jogging to catch up with Flack.
“Yeh, I think so” he already knew what tonight was really about “you better be there man, i don’t want it to be just me and the geek squad” he winked.
“Nah, I’m going, couldn’t really pass it up now could I, anyway..we aint no geek squad, plus everybody’s gonna be there.” He said with a small smile, secretly reminding himself that Lindsay ‘Montana’ Monroe would be there too.
“Yep, including ‘your’ Montana..” he said, smirking as he walked away. Danny just shook his head and headed to his office. Nearing his office he noticed that Lindsay was there, her head down on her desk. Careful not to wake her he entered quietly and then crouched down beside her.
“Linds..Montana come on wake up” he almost whispered, shaking her gently. She began to stir, a small smile appeared on her face when she realised who woke her up. She sat up and smoothed herself out.
“Um, sorry about that, not much sleep last night” she explained, quite embarrassed with the situation. She tried to figure out where she had gotten in her pile of paperwork, whilst Danny just smiled at her, then he let out a quiet laugh, Lindsay looked up at him, still blushing. “What?” she asked.
“Nothing, I just figured you wouldn’t have checked the time.. We are off the clock, Montana. Your coming tonight yeh?” he asked, hoping, almost praying she said yes.
“Yeh, I just need to find something to wear, i haven’t been out in a while...What time does it start?” she said, hoping he might offer to take her, she looked at him with pleading eyes. “Um, I think it starts at seven thirty, you got a ride there? Or you want me to take you?” He looked at her, not wanting her to say no. Neither of them even realised they were both getting what they wanted from one another.
“Seven thirty, okay. Um pick me up at seven. We can get a head start on the night...” she said grinning and with that she walked out of the office to the locker room, ready to head home.
SATURDAY NIGHT
Danny arrived at Lindsay’s apartment building 5 minutes early, he was overly nervous and hoped that tonight, something might happen between them. After a few minutes of daydreaming, he was taken out of it with Lindsay opening her window and yelling down for him to come up. He locked his car and headed up the stairs, his hands sweating as he got closer to her door. He got there and it was left slightly ajar, probably so he could just walk in, but he knocked as he entered anyway.
“Hey, i’ll just be a second, Danny, you can get yourself a drink while you wait.” He heard from behind the closed door beside the living room. He helped himself to a beer and sat in front of the TV.
About 5 minutes later Lindsay appeared in the living room, and she took his breath away. She was wearing a short demin skirt with random ripped parts and an extremely low cut top, that went perfectly with her eyes. He had never seen her like this before, he hadn’t realised, but he had now been staring at her for a good 30 seconds and she giggled.
“That good huh?” she said, kind of nervously.
“Um..well....um.. Wow..Sorry Linds but you look amazing.” He stammered and blushed as he looked away.
“Thanks Danny, you don’t look to bad yourself..I think Mac will appreciate us all coming to cheer him on” she said, trying to change the subject of how they looked.
“Yeh, he will. Well, ready for a night to remember? ‘Coz we’d better get going” He said with a smirk and looked at his clock, reading 7.15.
‘A night to remember’ she kept thinking... ’what did he mean by that?’
And with that they left and headed to Cozy’s.
AT COZY’S
Stella, Hawkes, Adam, Sid and Don were already seated in a booth near the back, with a perfect view of the stage and dance floor. When Danny and Lindsay finally arrived they ordered a fresh round of drinks and took their seats.
“Well, well, look who finally decided to show up, what took you guys so long?” Don asked, smirking at everyone else who knew what he was thinking.
Lindsay blushed and explained that Danny picked her up and she wasn’t quite ready. After ten minutes of chatting, blushing and laughing, Mac’s band came on stage for the first of five songs.
Stella insisted that her and Don danced and that Danny and Lindsay danced, it was a slow song and Lindsay wasn’t looking forward to slow dancing with Danny, simply because she liked him so much. So the four of them made their way to the dance floor, Don taking Stella’s hand and spinning her round before grabbing her waist to slow dance, and Danny, who wasn’t sure of what to do, copied him and surprised Lindsay. She put her arms around his neck and her head on his shoulder whilst his hands rested on her waist. To an average outsider they would have looked like the perfect couple, but to the team, they looked like two people wanting the same thing, but not knowing it.
After the first song, the four of them sat down, Don and Stella laughing away with the rest of them and Danny and Lindsay just thinking to themselves, every now and again catching each other’s stolen glances.
About an hour later, Mac had finished and joined the team. Stella and Lindsay, being the only girls there, felt they had to keep up with the guys and were pretty much drinking them under the table. Danny and Don were also drunk, but the rest of the team seemed to be fine.
“So, Danny...got your eyes set on anyone in particular?” Stella asked, her words slurring slightly.
Danny blushed. “um, possibly Stel, why, what’s it to you?” he challenged, his words definitely slurring. He looked over at Lindsay who was almost asleep.
“Come on Montana, let’s get you home” He said, nudging her slightly, making her open her eyes.
“Nooo...I wanna sleep Danny...” She complained as he put her arm round him and his around her.
“Right guys, we shall see you tomorrow...Good night” he said, waving with his free hand.. “Nah, Dan, you aint taking her home like that...I’ll give you a lift” Hawkes offered. Danny accepted, under the condition that he got dropped off at her place to make sure she got in ok.
With that they said their goodbyes and left. The ride to Lindsay’s was almost silent, except that Lindsay had woken up a bit more and was singing quietly to the radio, stating how much she loved each song that came on. They arrived at her place with Danny thanking Hawkes and helping Lindsay out the car. He helped her up the stairs and into her apartment.
30 minutes later they were both sitting discussing Stella and Don, on Lindsay’s sofa, Lindsay had changed into a pair of too big sweatpants and a tank top and Danny had taken off his jacket to get comfortable.
“So do you think they would ever get together?” Lindsay asked, giggling slightly. Danny loved to hear her laugh and to see her smile. It had been a while since she started and they had gotten over the whole “newbie” phase. “I dunno, i hope so...they don’t seem to see whats in front of them” he said, enjoying her company
“they aint the only ones” she mumbled in response, which made his head snap up to look at her.
“Huh?” he asked, not sure he heard her correct.
“I think you heard Danny, look i know i’ve had something to drink and i also know im sobering up but i have to tell you...i think there is something between us, don’t you?” she explained, looking straight into his eyes, waiting for a reaction. He was stunned, if he knew she had felt this way he wouldn’t have waited this long to do something about it.
“I agree completely, I’ve had these feelings for a while now, Montana, and I’m really glad you feel the same...but what should we do about it, I mean...Um well...-“
He was cut off by Lindsay’s lips crashing down on his. He was surprised at first but slowly deepened the kiss, running his tongue over her lips for entry. She allowed him and their tongues started a battle for control, as everything was with the two of them. He rolled her over onto her back and lay on top of her, keeping his weight off her as well as he could. Her hands slid through his hair and his hands roamed her body...
