Am I the only one confuzzled? (about S06E18)
Apr 8 2010, 6:45 PM EDT
ok, maybe not confuzzled. A little disorientated maybe. First there was the dream. Well, it sort of sets the tone and shows the focus will be on Stella. Then we're getting random monologues from a dead woman. How? I can suspend my disbelief but I like it to have a bit more context, was it stuff she had told Stella in the past... or was she really just talking from the dead. Also, how did the body get in the box? Did no-one notice the smell? I kept expecting a reveal where the boy got in the box himself, playing hide and seek. Instead, the step-dad is a man-slaughter x2. It isn't that easy to kill a kid. Maybe I'm being dumb but I would have liked more action and statements in this, as opposed to vague statements. I'm all for character development and character insight but this episode just left me scratching my head. Maybe it's just me. What are your thoughts on this ep?

As for the boy in the box. Entirely plausible. I think the warehouse(or whatever) was fairly isolated, with little if any chance of anyone stumbling anywhere near the box, which would explain why nobody smelled anything. Also, depending on the material of the box, odors from decomposing might have been masked somewhat. I remember a real-life case of a mom who'd killed on of her children & kept the body hidden in a trunk that she'd placed in her closet. Got away with it for DECADES. Do you find this valuable? |

Yikes. Thanks for the explanation. I guess I was a bit fixated on Marina's monologues, if someone doesn't want me to think too deeply about something, I will do the opposite. Now I know about the real-life case, I can buy it. I guess I'm still a little annoyed at the promos, making Stella's crash into this big tease when it all turned out to be a dream. I felt a little cheated, didn't put me in the right frame of mind to watch the rest of the ep. Maybe I'll feel better after rewatching it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I also found that episode a little confusing. Too hard to determine, especially at the beginning, what was a flashback/dream vs. what was current. And the kid in the closet that was Marina,.... I thought it was a boy at first, then they started talking about her brother, so I assumed it was the brother, but it wasn't, it was Marina. But the concept of the show was fine, just a little confusing here and there.

I usually tend to overthink everything too. Drives ya crazy sometimes, doesn't it? Do you find this valuable? |
